Helping Hand Initiative

Helping Hand is about keeping kids in school and focused through counselling support, uniform assistance, lunch programs, Teacher assistant funding etc. The school, home and social environment for kids these days is quite different to what many former students would have experienced. With the increased cost of living, rising rents and housing, and soaring food prices many families face enormous difficulties just providing the basics.

Following a spate of suicide attempts at the school, and the wider community, the XŌtaki  Alumni has been co-funding an extended mental health counselling service at the school. This programme is providing real and critical support to students and extends the reach and capacity of Ministry of Education and MSD provided resources.

Another example is the fine work that ex-student Robin Young from Lumino Smile Creations provides through free Orthodontic Treatment for a number of kids each year. We all know that putting ourselves out in world requires confidence and Rob has helped many students over the years to feel more assured and secure.

These activities exist only because of the generosity of individuals, local businesses and community groups who want to show their support for young people. If you'd like to contribute through donations of either funds or services, please contact us.
