Scott Wylie

Chair

Scott had a successful career as a tech executive working in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the US, and after many years of corporate life he's now swapped it all for a lifestyle block in Peka Peka.

He joined the XŌtaki trust in 2018 and is keen to grow this invaluable support network of former students and staff helping the college thrive into the future.

Emma Henderson

Secretary/Treasurer

Emma is our wonderful secretary and treasurer keeping us on track and on time. She is a senior legal executive with law firm Wakefields where she assists her clients to achieve their goals and make sound decisions that are right for them.

Outside of work Emma enjoys walks along the Ōtaki river with her daughter, particularly the Chrystalls Bend walkway. Emma is also a very keen fisher-woman with her favoured fishing spots being Ōtaki Beach, Mataikona and Castlepoint for competitions.

Andy Fraser

Principal

Kia ora

Ko Andy Fraser ahau, te Tumuaki o te Kariti o Ōtaki.

Andy has been a resident of Ōtaki for 23 years and at the College for 17 of those. He started at the college as Deputy Principal in 2008 and took over the role of Principal in 2012. He’s married with two daughters who live locally and now has seven mokopuna who are attending Kohanga Reo or are at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rito.

He was president of the Horowhenua/Kāpiti Touch Association for 12 years, has been involved with the Rahui rugby club, and contributes to the community as a Justice of the Peace.

Peter Northern

Trustee

Peter was born and bred in Ōtaki where he still lives with his wife Debbie. He went through Ōtaki Primary and Ōtaki College as did both his children. He has a strong desire to see both the College and the community continue to thrive through the coming years.

Interests include surfing, fishing and golf. He also enjoys travelling and spending time with family.

Peter Housiaux

Trustee

Pete has lived his whole life in Ōtaki. He began his long association with the sea after regularly skipping school to surf at the beach. He joined the Ōtaki Surf Life Saving Club aged 11 and has continued in many committee roles ever since. He runs the very successful local firm Concrete Doctors.

Peter became a member of Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellowship in appreciation of his community work, he was inducted into the Kāpiti-Horowhenua Business Hall of Fame in 2017 and he been twice awarded coach of the year and sportsperson of the year at the Kāpiti Sports Awards...he was also inducted into the XŌtaki Hall of Fame in 2021!

Max Lutz

Trustee

Max is a local community legend who has worked tirelessly in many capacities including as the chair of Friends of Ōtaki River and past chair of the XŌtaki Alumni Trust. He sourced funding for, and personally drove, many of the wonderful projects the school has benefited from over the last ten years.

He works alongside family members, dairy farming neighbours and community members to give back in environmental and educational initiatives. Max is a third-generation farmer and runs the family farm with brother Erwin and nephew Clay.

Kerry Walker

Trustee

For 38 years Kerry Walker has farmed a 110ha-effective farm at Te Horo just a few kilometres from the coast. From the highest point on the farm you get a magnificent view of Kāpiti Island.

He did an ag economics degree at Massey University, then came the obligatory OE and then to the farm in 1983. He loves the community he lives in and the fact that it has stayed constant for the whole time he’s farmed at Te Horo.

Travis Robertson

Trustee

Travis was born and raised in Ōtaki. Attending Waitohu School and Ōtaki College before heading off to Otago University. After graduation he and wife Catherne moved to London, spending four years working and travelling. Now returned to the Kapiti Coast, he works as a local real estate agent in Ōtaki.

He’s part of the Ōtaki Sports Club and currently plays football for Purutaitama. He joined the Ōtaki Alumni Trust in 2024 and is looking forward to helping enhance our incredible College and Students.

Rachel Hooper

Trustee

Rachel attended Ōtaki College in the 1990s. She lived and worked in Sydney, Australia in the early 2000s and upon returning to New Zealand sought employment in the Hospitality industry, where she still is today, in an Administrative Role.

Rachel was first introduced to the XŌtaki  Alumni Trust as a co-opted member to the 2019 Reunion Committee. She became a Trustee in October 2024.

Hamish Wood

Trustee/Teacher Representative

Hamish is the Deputy Principal at Ōtaki College with over ¼ of a century in Secondary Education. Hamish started at Ōtaki College in 2012. He lives on the Kāpiti Coast and is married to an Ōtaki local, Adelle, with two sons, Oscar and Lewis.

He has a passion for supporting youth in their educational and employment journey. Hamish was an original trustee of Work Ready Kāpiti - a charitable organisation that empowers young adults into employment through quality initiatives and programmes promoting work-readiness.

John Heatherwick was also a Steering Group member and had accepted nomination as a Trustee when he suddenly died in April 2014. John will be sadly missed from XŌtaki and his contribution will be remembered.
